Farewell Bend was a significant landmark to the pioneers because it was their last view of the Snake River. After following the Snake for the past 330 miles since Fort Hall, it was time to say, "Farewell" and push on.

Flagstaff Hill -- 5 miles NE of Baker City, OR

The pioneers got their first good view of what lay ahead of them in Oregon from the crest of Flagstaff Hill. The Baker Valley lay below and the imposing Blue Mountains lurked ahead.

The National Historic Oregon Trail Interpretive Center is located on Flagstaff Hill. It is a wonderful interactive museum re-creating live on the trail.
